If one had to sum Vexen up in one word, it would be "science". Vexen's entire existence revolves the pursuit of science and scientific achievments. He honestly has no recollection of any other way of living nor would he want to even pause to consider the possibility of life without his work or his experiments. Because he has preferred to spend his time locked away in the confines of his lab with only books to keep him company, he possesses little to no social skills but that's perfectly fine with him. He has no use for most people, feeling them unintelligent morons. Best to only deal with them only when nessesary and with no emotion whatsoever.. not that Vexen would ever admit to anyone including himself that he had even the inklings of human emotion left in his hollowed shell. He'd rather not sully his hands with things that don't benefit his precious research, including battle or socializing.

Despite his denial, he is far from completely emotionless - he has been known to grow quite angry when not given the proper respect due someone his age, position and profession and still holds bitterness inside from past rejections and slights against him. Rather than deal with the echoes of emotion he sometimes feels or the grudges of the past however, he tends to retreat into his lab and wrap himself up in his experiements until whatever irked him no longer matters. His only fondness is for his work and he will go to almost any length to continue or protect it, whether it's ethical or not.

THREE

Vexen began his life as Even, a man born in Radiant Garden who became an apprentice of Ansem the Wise. Worried the Darkness in people's hearts would eventually consume his world, Ansem began performing tests on Xehanort's heart, which Even showed particular interest in. Eventually, Ansem created a special laboratory in his castle's basement for such experimentation. However, Even and the other apprentices had their own intentions for the laboratory, and began conducting inhumane experiments on the human heart and the darkness within it. Such experimentation led to the creation of Heartless. Ansem quickly discovered their secret experiments, and immediately ordered them to stop. One day, after being advised to review their research data by King Mickey, Ansem found that the effects of their experiments had become irreversible.

Eventually, the six apprentices dabbled too deep into darkness through their continued experiments. Even, along with the others, was consumed by the darkness, producing a Heartless. However, the apprentices all had strong wills, and so Even also became his Nobody, Vexen. The six Nobodies formed Organization XIII, and banished Ansem the Wise to the Realm of Darkness.

As Vexen, he has remained true to his scientific roots even though the others have taken on other paths. This has lead to him not being as capable in battle as the others, reflected by the fact that his throne in Where Nothing Gathers is the lowest of the thirteen.

FOUR

Vexen is a tall and lean man, one that some refer to as "bony" thanks to both the angular shape of his body and face and his lack of solid and built up muscle tone. He certainly appears his age, often it's assumed he's much older - a fact which irritates him to no end. His skin is pale, washed out from not enough sunlight and almost sickly in appearance. His long hair is of an ashen blonde hue, straight as pins and often looking as if it hadn't been cared for, with the bangs parted down the middle and left to hang limply at the sides of his head. His eyes are olive green, bright and near luminous in certain lighting, often half lidded from apparent boredom or lack of proper rest. He isn't a pretty man but appearances are all superficial and folly to him anyhow.

His common garb is of course the long, heavy black coat of the Organization but he's been known to discard it for a lab coat when working with chemicals and on projects that might be 'messy'.
